How we work
We meet at your home for an initial 2 hour consultation. During that time we take photos and measurements, note primary site lines from windows doors and focal points, elevations, wind and soil conditions, door and driveway access. Depending on the health of current plantings - we may ask to take soil samples for analysis. Soil tests give us a good indication of the current fertility levels in the soil, the PH, and the need for fertilizers or other soil additives to support long-term root development and healthy plants.
Each garden is so different that it can be hard to guess what your garden may require in terms of time to fully design. If you only need help to design a planting plan for a bed that already exists - you may only require one or two hours worth of help. For a large space that will be redesigned - 8 - 12 hours is a good estimate to have in mind (example: backyard dining area) Now, really intricate areas will require more time. As an example - a backyard with a long list of ‘wishes” on it. Let’s say you are envisioning a pool with a bluestone deck, a fireplace, dining space, horseshoe pit and a perennial garden. That’s a lot of work . Before we leave, we will we will be able to give you a firm written estimate for a final drawing. We complete drawings in order of signed contracts and deposits that we receive. The drawing will be easily understood as a planting guide for you or your landscaping contractor. We are eager to hand select, deliver, place, and supervise the installation of shrubs, trees and perennials when requested.
All gardens require editing over time. We hope that you will continue to work with us over the years to order biennials and tender bulbs each season, as you expand your connection to nature at home.
